He's the technologist who brought us Gollum in the Lord of the Rings movies, a motion-captured character that was one of the first and most compelling motion-captured characters in cinema history. But, for a few years, he was persona non grata in Hollywood. Why? Because the artists were afraid of his technology and felt that it reduced their work to something less than real.
